Chelsea Brentford Stun Wasteful Chelsea At Stamford Bridge

Bryan Mbeumo’s last-minute breakaway goal and defender Ethan Pinnock’s header gave Brentford a 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Saturday, as the lavishly built Blues were unable to convert possession into goals once more.

Unnoticed by Chelsea’s defense, Pinnock struck a powerful header from a Mbeumo cross in the 58th minute to surprise the hosts, who had been circling the Bees’ penalty area for most of the game without producing many obvious opportunities.

Goalie Robert Sanchez ventured up for a corner as the Blues surged forward in the 96th minute, hoping for a late equaliser, only to be caught off guard as the visitors burst away and Mbeumo scored into an empty net.

Since the end of last season, when they sacked managers Thomas Tuchel and later Graham Potter, Chelsea has only won one of their last 13 home league games.

The hosts got off to a fast start in the west London derby, and with ten minutes remaining in the first half, winger Noni Madueke nearly broke the deadlock with a looping drive that struck the crossbar.

Despite Nicolas Jackson’s return to the starting lineup following an injury, Brentford was able to contain everything Chelsea threw at them and Jackson, the center forward, was not a real threat.

Ahead of the remaining games this weekend, Chelsea slid to 11th place, while Brentford outscored their neighbors into 10th place.
