Kenya Shabana vs Gor Mahia ‘Nyanza derby’ moved from Homabay Stadium

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier fixture involving promoted outfit Shabana FC and Gor Mahia has been shifted from Homabay Stadium.

According to FKF, Tore Bobe will now face K’Ogalo in their much-awaited ‘Nyanza derby’ at Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday after Shabana, who are the home team, requested for the change of venue. This will be the first meeting between the two sides, who boast a huge following since Shabana earned promotion to the top-flight at the start of the season.

The Kisii-based Glamour Boys made it back to the top league after 17 years in the cold and according to the club Patron Sam Nyamweya, their plea to have the game played at Kasarani was granted by FKF.

“We wanted the game to be played in Nairobi so that our fans can be able to attend andI am now urging all our fans to turn out in large numbers and cheer the boys,” Nyamweya told Africa Top Sports, adding: “The boys have promised me a good show, the coach says they are ready, and saw fans should play their part on Wednesday.”

However, before the derby, Shabana will face Ulinzi Stars at Ulinzi Complex on Sunday, and Nyamweya has also called on the fans to make sure they throng the match venue to support the boys. “We need their (fans) support and appreciate how far they have been attending our matches, so Sunday we play against Ulinzi and we urge them to show their solidarity and rally behind the team once again,” said Nyamweya, who is also the chairman of Shabana’s funds’ drive committee.

Shabana are currently lying in position 13 of the 18-team table with seven points from seven matches. They have posted one win, which came against Tusker, drawn four and lost two.
