Rwanda Spittler named new Rwanda coach ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Rwanda have confirmed the appointment of German tactician Torsten Frank Spittler as their new head coach on a one-year deal.

The 59-year-old Spittlercomes in to replace Carlos Alos Ferrer, who resigned from his duties in August to take up the Belarusian national team job. A statement from Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) confirmed the news by saying: “FERWAFA is pleased to announce that Torsten Spittler Frank has been appointed as the new head coach of the men’s Rwanda national team.”

Spittler started his career as a youth coach before becoming an assistant coach for the Germany U16 national team and also worked as the football technical director in Mozambique. He has also worked as a coach and technical director for football in various countries such as Nepal, Yemen, Sierra Leone, India, and Canada in conjunction with the German Foreign Office, German Football Association (DFB), and Bavarian Football Association (BFV).

From 2006 to 2007, he was head coach of Canadian side Okanagan Challenge of the Pacific Coast Soccer League after previously working in Canada as a touring coach for the Alberta Soccer Association in 1999. His immediate assignment will be the 2026 World Cup double header against Zimbabwe and South Africa which are both due in November.
