Premier League Everton Lodges Appeal Against 10-Point Deduction By Premier League

Everton announced on Friday that they have appealed against the Premier League’s 10-point deduction.

Following the discovery last month that the Merseyside club had violated the profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) regarding losses, the team was deducted points with immediate effect.

Everton Football Club has today lodged with the Chair of the Premier League’s Judicial Panel its appeal of the decision by a Premier League Commission to impose a 10-point deduction on the club,” the club stated in a statement.

“An Appeal Board will now be appointed to hear the case.”

Everton acknowledged during a hearing earlier this month that they had broken the profitability and sustainability regulations, according to the Premier League.

The ensuing penalty was the largest of its sort since the Premier League’s founding.

The deduction was called “wholly disproportionate and unjust” by the team, as it caused Everton to tumble from 14th place in the rankings into the relegation zone with four points.

Before the teams were announced, thousands of Everton supporters held up bright pink posters at Goodison Park that said “Corrupt” beneath the Premier League’s lion-head logo, in protest of the deduction during last week’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

A banner with the words “Premier League = Corrupt” was flown over the Etihad Stadium last week during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool, according to Everton supporter club The 1878s.

On Saturday, Everton will visit Nottingham Forest.
