Itumeleng Khune, the veteran goalkeeper for Kaizer Chiefs, has been suspended, the team announced in a statement on Thursday.
“After the Club’s rigorous disciplinary processes last week, the committee has taken stern action and decided that Itumeleng Khune should be temporarily separated from the team until certain conditions have been fulfilled,” read the statement.
The club went on to say, “Kaizer Chiefs, a club that strives for the greatest standards of professionalism and believes that discipline is essential, launched an internal investigation after learning of various occurrences involving Khune.
To make sure that our team was cohesive and operating properly, the investigation was crucial.

Khune will be required, with assistance from the Club, to attend and actively engage in certain programs intended to foster his personal development while he is away.
These programs are specially designed to support him in addressing the difficulties and problems he is encountering while fostering a supportive team environment.
“The Club has taken steps to address his transgressions and certain sanctions were instituted, including removing him from the Club captaincy of Kaizer Chiefs.
“As Kaizer Chiefs, we believe in applying corrective measures to achieve personal growth, and we are committed to providing the necessary support to Itumeleng during this period.
“Once he has completed the required programs and met the set expectations, he will be welcomed back into the team.
“The team remains focused on the upcoming fixtures and the continued pursuit of excellence.
