Burkina Faso head coach Hubert Velud has acknowledged that the team’s victory over Mauritania was difficult.

Burkina Faso pulled off a thrilling late victory in their opening match to claim all three points AFCON.

Hubert Velud’s first victory of the AFCON 2023 was given to Burkina Faso by a late penalty kick from Bertrand Traore.

He claims that this wasn’t simple.

“We won the game in a more difficult situation, it is even more difficult looking at where the game traveled to,” he said.

Hubert Velud did not take aback by Mauritania’s determined play, nor by the journey the game took them.

“We expected such a tough game from Mauritania so we were not surprised because first AFCON games are very balanced.

“First half was a little balanced, we didn’t create enough chances, our opponent took advantage of our deficiencies,” he concluded.

Velud attributed his victory to the second-half substitute, claiming it altered the course of the match.

“Second half, Mauritania plunged physically, we were much more dangerous than them, we also had more impact with the changes,” he concluded.
