AFCON AFCON 2023: We Need To Move On- Abdou Tell His Players

Head coach Amir Abdou of Mauritania said they will move on from their narrow 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in the opening game of the AFCON 2023.

Mauritania almost shared the points with Burkina Faso but a late penalty scored by substitute, Betrand Traore denied them the point.

Amir Abdou feels his team should have gained more from the game, but Burkina Faso scored late to take all three points.

After the game, he stated that although they gave it everything they had, the Stade de la Paix’s high temperature had an adverse effect on their play.

“A bit of injustice to us as the boys gave everything, they followed instructions.

“Our performance dropped in the second half because of the heat and there was a lot of suffering.

After seven attempts, Mauritania is still searching for their first Africa Cup of Nations victory.

Their next opponent is Angola.

They will swiftly get past the setback and keep up their hard work for the upcoming match against Angola, according to Amir Abdou.

“We are not going to slumber in sorrow.

We need to move on from this and prepare ourselves for the next game which is against Angola,” he added.

Mauritania are currently at the bottom of Group D with no point.
