Napoli caretaker coach Francesco Caldona says Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is tired as the 25-yearv old striker has very intensive January playing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire with Nigeria.

After an injury prevented him from playing some few games this season, Osimhen was back to his best before the AFCON last month and was one of the best players in the tournament even though he only scored once.

The 25-year old and the Super Eagles went on to the final before bowing down to hosts Ivory Coast (1-2).

But Victor Osimhen has already turned all focus to his club and scored on both of his games since returning from the continental tournament.

His goal on Sunday allowed Napoli to draw with Cagliari but Osimhen has been subbed off five minutes prior to the full-time.

Speaking on the Nigerian’s shape, Caldona said : “He was only tired,” he told DAZN.

“Victor is a fantastic guy. He scored two goals in two matches and will slowly get back in shape.

“Don’t forget he played at AFCON. Players are devastated when they return. He was tired also against Barcelona, but players always want to stay on the pitch.”
