Nigeria Premier League NPFL: Bayelsa, Rangers Claim Away Win As Pillars Trounce Sunshine

The Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL match day twenty-one was thrilling as Rangers International Football Club of Enugu and Bayelsa United emerged victorious.

Matchday 21 produced just 14 goals with the game involving River United and Remo Stars postponed due to the former participation over the weekend in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Three games ended in a draw while Kano Pillars 5-1 troucing of Sunshine Stars was the highest victory recorded Matchday 21.

Also the Matchday saw two teams, Bayelsa United and Enugu Rangers claimed a vital away win.

Rangers defeated Doma United 1-0 in Gombe to snap her 29-game home winless streak in the NPFL.

In the meantime, Bayelsa United stunned Akwa United with a one-nil victory in Eket to clinch their first away win of the year.

The visitors’ triumph was scored by substitute Ofem Nneoyi, adding to the Promise Keepers’ misery.

With 12 away wins so far this season, Bayelsa United is currently the seventh team in the league to triumph away from home.

In Lafia, Lobi Stars defeated Heartland FC, who was having trouble, 1-0 to take the top spot on the NPFL log.

In the 68th minute, Suur Kumaga took advantage of a rebound by custodian Darlingtin Ovunda to give Lobi Stars the lead.

The most notable outcome of the weekend was Kano Pillars’ 5-1 thumping of Sunshine Stars.

Promise Awosanmi received a consolation from the spot for Sunshine Stars, while Ibrahim Mustapha, Auwalu Ali Malam, Rabiu Ali, and Mustapha Umar scored a brace to give the Kano-based team its goals.

In the 2023–2024 NPFL season, Shooting Stars Club of Ibadan ended the hosts’ 10-match home unbeaten streak by holding Plateau United to a scoreless draw.

Gombe United defeated Sporting Lagos 2-0, Niger Tornadoes defeated Abia Warriors 1-0, Kwara United defeated Katsina United 1-1, and Bendel Insurance defeated Enyimba FC 0-0 are the other results.
