Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro relished being on the winning side of a five-goal thriller and what will go down as one of the memorable Soweto derbies between the Buccaneers and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
The Spanish mentor is now in his second season at Pirates with Saturday’s DStv Premiership encounter his fifth in charge. It is one that will stand out for Riveiro after his side claimed bragging rights and three points in a 3-2 victory over their biggest rivals.
“I think it was a proper derby. I think the previous ones at least in the league were much more, I don’t want to say boring but I think today we had much more opportunity to see much more football, much more different momentums in the game for both teams,” Riveiro said.
He added: “So, I’m sure that the people who left the stadium are hoping to come back and see one more time in the future, we are not gonna play anymore in the season but I think it’s one of those games that I think helps to keep our fans behind us. Today we are the winning team, I think we were also the better team on the field even though we didn’t start [well]. We started a little bit shy and we conceded an easy goal early but I think after the goal, Orlando Pirates managed to play.”
