Nigeria NFF appoints Manu Garba as Golden Eaglets’ Head Coach

Former World Cup champion Manu Garba has been named head coach of the Nigeria U17 boys’ team, the Golden Eaglets, by the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Garba had achieved Nigeria’s fourth victory at that stage in 2013 when he guided the Golden Eaglets to victory in the FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Goalkeeper Dele Alampasu, Taiwo Awoniyi, Musa Mohammed, Isaac Success, Chidiebere Nwakali, and Kelechi Iheanacho were all part of Garba’s 2013 world-winning team.

In their debut match, the team trounced Mexico 6-1, drew 3-3 with Sweden, and thrashed Iraq 5-0.

The team finished second at the African U17 Championship in Morocco following a loss to Cote d’Ivoire on penalties.

They defeated Uruguay 2-0 in the quarterfinals, Sweden 3-0 in the semifinals, and Iran 4-1 in the Round of 16 before defeating Mexico by the same score in the championship game to win the title.

The former Nigerian international will now take over the position immediately and manage the team’s preparations for the WAFU B U17 Championship, which is scheduled to take place in Ghana next month.
