Africa Exclusivity ATS: Serge Akakpo, “The 2014 World Cup is still far away”

In the premises of Africa Top Sports Wednesday, Serge Akakpo mentioned the status of the Togolese football with regards to the 2014 World Cup qualification. With the win Sunday against Cameroon, Togo was revived in group I. But the actual captain of the West African team does not yet think the Brazilian World Cup. For him, they should handle the games one by one and win them.

“For now, I believe in us for the match against Libya. To the World Cup, it is not certain because even if we qualify for the final, we will depend on the missteps of our other opponents. And secondly, there is a final round even after the group stages. So let’s say the World Cup is still far away. Today, we must focus on the match against Libya as we did against Cameroon. Deliver this game with our best football, give 100% and try to snatch the three points. Then we will calculate and see our position in comparison to our ambitions. “

Akakpo also returned to the departure of Alaixys Romao and Jonathan Ayité that he sees as a major handicap to balance of the Hawks.

“Their departure is a big handicap for us. These are two holders and managers of the team. They lead the team up. Now we cannot blame them. They were present at Cabinda, they experienced the worst horror and their family and nobody can blame them for preserving their lives. I personally expect to see what the federation and the government will provide as solution. Then we’ll weigh the pros and cons”.
