Ligue 1 LFP Slam Neymar, Others With Suspension After Le Classique Uproar


Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), the governing body of professional French football have slammed Neymar and other players have been slammed with match suspensions.

The decision was reached after the disciplinary tribunal found Neymar and others involved in a brawl on Sunday culpable of misdemeanour.

Neymar was handed a two match suspension despite claiming he was racially abused.

His teammate, Layvin Kurzawa was handed a six match suspension while Leandro Paredes got two match suspension.

PSG in a statement added that Marseille player Jordan Amavi was suspended for three games.

While Angel So Maria has been summoned by the panel September 23 following his involvement in the outburst.

“The disciplinary tribunal has passed judgement on the incidents that marred the final minutes of Sunday’s match against Marseille.

Layvin Kurzawa has been suspended for six matches, while Neymar Jr and Leandro Paredes both received two match bans, with the Brazilian receiving an extra one-game suspended sentence.  

“For Marseille, Jordan Amavi has been suspended for three games while Dario Benedetto will miss the next match. 

Angel Di Maria has been called up to face the commission on Wednesday 23 September, the statement added.

A brawl ensued after Neymar hit Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez   in the added time of the Le Classique which Marseille won 1-0. 

The referee had to control the situation by sending five of the players out.

Neymar later accused Gonzalez for racial abuse and called on the French football authority to make use of VAR.

Following the claim by Neymar, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) confirmed it will investigate the accusation.

Both clubs have stood by their players in the wake of the event.

PSG  said they will “strongly support” their player.

Marseille said Gonzalez is not a racist.

“Alvaro Gonzalez is not racist; he demonstrated it to us by his daily behaviour since joining the club, as his team-mates have already testified.”
