Africa Soccer Constant Omari Reappointed As CAF Interim President

The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) ruled on Ahmad Ahmad case reducing FIFA ban from five to two years. As the Malagasy appealed on Friday.

Due to the suspension of Ahmad Ahmad, the First CAF Vice-President, Constant Omari took over again as the Interim President.
Ahmad Ahmad’s last hopes for a second term as head of the CAF vanished on Monday. The Malagasy will not be able to stand for the elections on 12th March in Rabbat.

In November 2020, the FIFA sanctioned African football boss with a five-year ban on all football-related activities and a fine of 200,000 Swiss francs for multiple breaches of the code of ethics, including embezzlement.

On Monday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) announced that it has partially admitted Malagasy’s appeal by reducing the suspension to two years and reducing the fine to 50,000 Swiss francs.

For its part, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has taken note of this decision which prevents Ahmad Ahmad from being able to exercise his responsibilities at the head of the body.

In application of its statutes more precisely the provisions of Article 24 paragraph 8, which provide that in the event of the absence of the President or his temporary inability to assume his office, the first Vice-President President shall replace him, the CAF announced that Constant Omari will continue to act as interim head of the executive of the CAF until the election of a new president, at the 43rd General Assembly, on 12th March in Rabat, Morocco.
