South Africa lost 2-0 to Sudan in Khartoum on Sunday in Afcon Qualifier. As a result, Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations. For Ghana and Chelsea defender Baba Rahman, it was not a not a surprise for him.

With this loss, South Africa failed to join Ghana in the 24-team AFCON set to take place in Cameroon next year. And he Black Stars left-back told FootballMadeInGhana the result didn’t come as a shock.

“I had it in mind that it will be difficult for South Africa to win there.” The 26-year-old said after scoring in their 3-1 win over Sao Tome and Principe.

“I have been there and I saw how they played. If you go to Sudan or when we went there, the football wasn’t attractive.

“They just want to win. And so if you are not tough or have a bit of experience [at international level], then you get beaten easily. I knew it will be tough for South Africa to get a draw over there.”

Charles Akonnor’s side finished as Group C winners with 13 points, while Bafana finished third with 10 points from the six games played.
