As the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games entered Day 2 on Saturday, team Nigeria was involved in four sports.

Esther Tamaraebi was among the first to go in the Sculls repechage where she finished fourth from the expected first or second position that could have qualified her to the quarterfinals.

She managed and rowed to 4th place finishing with the time of 9:07.54 which was far from making her qualified.

Uche Eke may have failed to make to to the next round of the Artistic Gymnastics but he has etched his name in the history book as first person to represent Nigeria in the sport.

After three subdivision today, he was able to gather 13.433 in vault, 12.233 in Parallel Bars, 11.500 in Horizontal Bars, 12.833 in Floor, 12.866 in Pommel Horse and 11.900 in Rings.

He totalled 74.765 but couldn’t earn him qualification to the Quaterfinal stages.

Uche Eke Nigeria’s, only representative in Artistic gymnastics.

Olofunke had a disappointing outing as she was knocked out in the women’s Table Tennis singles in the preliminary round.

She lost 4-1(11-8,11-9,11-9,9-11,11-4) to Juan Liu of the United States.

Also, Olajide Omotayo despite his outstanding performance, was also sent packing in the men’s singles as he suffered a 4-0(7-11,9-11,6-11,5-11) defeat to Tiago Apolonia of Portugal.

The duo of Godwin Olofua and Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori competed in the Group play stage of the Men’s Doubles Badminton and were defeated 2-0 (21-2, 21-7) by Japan duo Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe.

The only hope for Team Nigeria on Day 2 was Edem Offiong who defeated Dora Madarasz 4-1(11-8,11-9,11-9,9-11,11-4) to progress into the round 2 of the women’s singles.

Team Nigeria will on Sunday compete in two sports.

D’Tigers will begin their Group B Basketball game against Australia by 9:30am Nigeria time.

Also Toko will be involved in the Sculls 1:30 am Nigeria time.
