African players abroad Manchester United duo in Ivory Coast squad for World Cup qualifiers

Ivory Coast coach Patrice Beaumelle has unveiled a  squad of 30 players for Group D World Cup qualifying matches against Mozambique and Cameroon next month.

Beaumelle announced his squad during the week with notable inclusions being Manchester United attacker Hamed Diallo and defender Eric Bailley.

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe is conspicuously absent from the squad of the Elephants.

A statement from Ivory Coast FA says the squad selection reflects restrictions which clubs in England and Italy have placed on players after resolving against releasing them to countries deemed as Covid-19 hot spots.

The Elephants travel to Mozambique on September 3 then host Cameroon on September 6.

During the same week, Malawi will be in Cameroon on September 3 then travel to South Africa to welcome Mozambique in the group’s other matches.

Malawi’s Flames will host the Mambas of Mozambique at Soweto Stadium after CAF declared Bingu National Stadium of Lilongwe as unfit for the World Cup tie.

Meanwhile, tickets for the home match against Cameroon, which will take place at Alassane Outttara D’ebimbe Anyama Stadium, have since gone on sale in several outlets in Ivory Coast.
