Africa Soccer Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos Forced To Leave South Africa Once Again

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has had to leave the country a few days after his side’s shock victory over Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers.

According to the SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe, work permit issues have forced the 69-year-old to return to his native country of Belgium to complete all the necessary documents needed for him to honour his five-year contract.

Broos had only been given a temporary autorisation. And now that it has expired, the coach has to redo the process in his country of birth.

It’s not even ideal for us because we would have wanted him to be in the country preparing for the next qualifiers. But unfortunately the laws of the country say otherwise.” Motlanthe said of Broos. He whose Bafana side collected four points from the two back-to-back qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana this month.

He was appointed, then had to go back home to get vaccinated. That impacted the paperwork he needed to do while in South Africa. He has now had to go back home to finalise it as per the regulations. We are just sorting that out. And the coach should be back in the country in about 10 days, with his work permit to continue full time.” The SAFA boss explained.

Bafana take on Ethiopia home and away next month in another round of qualification for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
