Egypt Egyptian FA Officially Terminates Contract Of Carlos Queiroz As Head Coach

Carlos Queiroz confirmed on Monday he was leaving his job as coach of Egypt’s national team, ending speculation he would stay on despite failing to lead them to the World Cup finals.

The Portuguese tactician agreed a six-month deal with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in September last year to oversee Egypt’s 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Queiroz guided the Pharaohs to top spot in Group F, but they fell just short of reaching the showpiece event in Qatar after losing to Senegal in a two-legged playoff.

The 69-year-old also just missed out on claiming a record eighth Africa Cup of Nations title for the North African giants when they were defeated by the Lions of Teranga in the final on penalties earlier this year.

Queiroz took to Twitter on Monday to confirm his departure with a heartfelt message to everyone connected with the national team.

To All, The Egyptian fans; Our supporters; My friendly and magical staff dream team; And to my wonderful players; Every new beginning that starts with one painful farewell, means that our hearts are full of gratitude, respect, and friendship. Those are my feelings right now.” He wrote on the social media platform.

To be the National Team Coach of such a great passionate football Nation was a privilege and an honor. To receive your trust and confidence for renewing this commitment to the next future, means a lot for me. And it is a professional reward of recognition that will prevail in my heart forever. Thank you so much to EFA.” Continued the statement.

There were rumours that Queiroz would stay on as head coach. But he and EFA president Gamal Allam failed to reach an agreement.

I had big ambitions for Egyptian football. But Gamal Allam and I disagreed about certain points.” He added.
