UEFA Champions League Liverpool proceed to semifinal after 3-3 draw with Benfica

Liverpool drew 3-3 with Benfica on Wednesday evening to confirm their place in the Uefa Champions League semifinal 6-4 on aggregate.

French defender Ibrahima Konate scored the opening goal for Liverpool in the 21st minute of the quarterfinal second leg match.

Konate was also target in the first leg when Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz also scored in the first leg at Estadio da Luz last week.

Some 10 minutes later, the visitors replied with an equalizing goal from Goncalo Ramos. The two teams tied at 1-1 at half-time.

Roberto Firmino restored Liverpool’s lead when he scored in the 55th and 65th minutes.

In response, Roman Yaremchuk scored for Benfica in the 73rd minute before Darwin Nunez levelled matters in the 81st minute.

Liverpool will date Villarreal in the semifinal after the Spanish side dismissed Bayern Munich 2-1 from the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, Manchester City travelled to Spain for a meeting with Atletico Madrid in a game that ended 0-0 on the night and 1-0 on aggregate. City date Real Madrid in the last-four.
