FIFA World Cup Argentina beat France to claim 3rd World Cup trophy

Argentina vs France

Lionel Messi’s Argentina are the 2022 World Cup champions thanks to their 4-2 win on penalties against France on Sunday evening after a mind-blowing 3-3 draw at the end of extra-time.

It was Lionel Messi who launched the show by opening the score on penalty for the Albiceleste in the 23rd minute after a good start from the South Americans.

Completely unrecognizable during the first period, France will concede a second goal in the 36th minute. And it was Angel Di Maria who made the break for Argentina and allowed his country to lead 2-0 at the break. But when we thought the French team was cooked, everything changed in the second part.

Kylian Mbappé will score an express double (80th on penalty and 81st on a superb half-volley) to restart the match and snatch extra time for the France team. In the meantime, the entries of Camavinga and especially Randal Kolo Muani have done the Blues a lot of good.

Far from throwing in the towel, Argentina will score a third goal thanks to Lionel Messi (108th) to get closer to their ultimate dream. But Kylian Mbappé, again, will change everything on penalty (118th) and send the two teams to penalties.

And that’s where Emiliano Martinez made the difference for the Albiceleste by making a save and assisted by Tchouaméni’s miss to allow Argentina to win 4-2. After 36 years of waiting, Argentina is again world champion.
