Ghana midfield supremo, David Sandam Abagna said the team was well prepared for the 2022 African Nations Championship CHAN   and that their overall goal is to make the people of Ghana proud back at home.

Thursday marked Ghana’s formal arrival in Constantine, a city in northeastern Algeria, as they began their penultimate round of preparations for this year’s

The skill of the footballers that West Africa continues to generate for the international game gives them the right to be considered the group’s favorites, despite the fact that they have not yet won the TotalEnergies CHAN championship.

The Black Galaxies were put in a difficult Group C with champions Morocco, Madagascar, and Sudan.

The 24-year-old midfield supremo specifically emphasized the team’s goal in an exclusive interview with CAFOnline.com from their team hotel in Constantine.

“We started with our preparations gradually in Ghana and increased the intensity when we got here.

“We played a few low profile matches and progressed to playing tougher sides from Ghana which also included a few international friendlies.

So, I think our preparations have been good but there is still quite a bit of work to do” says the Real Tamale United star.

We were in Algiers for a few days and also played a couple of friendly matches which gave us a taste of the weather but now that we are here in Constantine, we have to re-adjust a bit because it is much colder” he added.

Being one of the first countries to arrive in Algeria, Ghana sends a strong message to the rest of the world that it intends to do well in this competition that genuinely showcases African football ability.

On Sunday, the Black Galaxies play Madagascar in what many are likely to predict will be a victory for the west African team.

Abagna, who emphasized that there are no easy opponents in this competition and that all teams that are in Algeria would want to do well, said that nothing has been won until the game is formally over.

“We are a difficult group.

“We cannot afford to look down on anyone.

” It is a game of football which at times comes with surprises.

“Everyone comes into the tournament with their best players, so you need to be ready for anything.

“We can only stay focused and try to take every game as it comes”.

When asked what his personal aim for the competition was, the small midfielder underlined the necessity of putting the team’s and the country’s goals ahead of their own, noting that the team must always come before any personal goals.

“First is to always stick to the general goal, which is to make our country proud.

“Everyone back at home is paying attention to what we are doing here, and we are all here to make our country proud.

” I think if the team does well, it will automatically rub off onto the players because you cannot do well by yourself while the team suffers”, he concluded.

Prior to their last encounter against Morocco on January 23rd, Ghana will play their second game on Thursday, January 19th against an erratic Sudanese team.
