AFCON CAF Rejects Sierra Leone Stadium For AFCON Qualifier Against Nigeria

A major setback has been dealt to Sierra Leone’s hopes of hosting the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualification.

The African soccer governing body had agreed to hold the match at the recently built Southern Arena in Bo City, but early this week it changed its mind.

After learning that the city lacks adequate accommodation, CAF decided the game would not be played in the proposed stadium.

The Lone Stars’ preparations will suffer as a result of the decision because they must earn the most points possible in their remaining games in order to qualify for the biennial championship.

In 1996, in South Africa, Sierra Leone made its final participation in the African Cup of Nations.
