Champions League UEFA Appoints Marciniak To Officiate Champions League Final

Szymon Marciniak has been chosen by the UEFA Referees Committee to officiate the 2023 UEFA Champions League final between FC Internazionale Milano and Manchester City FC.

The final of this season will take place on June 10 at 21:00 CET at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.

After acting as the fourth official in the 2018 final, the 42-year-old Polish citizen, an international referee since 2011, will be officiating his first UEFA Champions League final.

As of the play-off round, he has officiated eight UEFA Champions League games, including the second leg of the semifinal between Manchester City FC and Real Madrid CF.

He presided over the 2022 FIFA World Cup championship match between France and Argentina in Qatar in December.

Pawe Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, two of Marciniak’s countrymen, will serve as his assistants, and Vasile Florin Marinescu of Romania will serve as a backup assistant referee.

The fourth official will be Istvan Kovacs (of Romania).

Tomasz Kwiatkowski (Poland) has been given the responsibility of serving as the VAR, and he will be supported by fellow countrymen Bartosz Frankowski and Marco Fritz from Germany.

Anthony Taylor will referee the 2023 UEFA Europa League final between Sevilla FC and AS Roma, to be played at Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, on Wednesday 31 May at 21:00 CET.

An international referee since 2013, the 44-year-old English referee has taken charge of six UEFA Champions League matches and one UEFA Europa League match this season, including the quarter-final second leg between AS Roma and Feyenoord. Taylor refereed the 2020 UEFA Super Cup which took place in the same stadium in Budapest between FC Bayern München and Sevilla FC, as well as the 2021 UEFA Nations League final between Spain and France.

Taylor will be assisted by compatriots Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn. The fourth official, Michael Oliver, and the reserve assistant referee Stuart Burt are also from England. The VAR role has been assigned to Stuart Attwell (England), and he will be aided by Christopher Kavanagh from England and Bastian Dankert from Germany.
