FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP New Zealand, Australia To Jointly Bid For 2029 FIFA Club World Cup

Football Australia (FA) president James Johnson is considering a combined candidacy with New Zealand to host the second iteration of the Club World Cup in 2029 because he thinks Fifa’s expanded Club World Cup will be a huge success.

The Women’s World Cup will be shared by Australia and New Zealand in July and August of this year, and Johnson has already suggested that may serve as a launchpad for a joint bid for the Men’s World Cup, possibly in 2034.

Johnson expressed his confidence that the expanded 32-team Club World Cup, the idea behind which was conceived by Fifa President Gianni Infantino, would succeed when it is held for the first time in the United States in 2025.

It’s going to grow, over the years,” Johnson, who worked under Infantino at Fifa until 2018, told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“Gianni really grew the Champions League at Uefa, he knows what it takes to do that. To one day have the best club teams coming to our shores (would be) only good for Australian football.

“That’s something we could look at, as well as the men’s World Cup – but that’s (after) we’ve delivered the best ever Women’s World Cup.”

Saudi Arabia will host the final Club World Cup later this year, which will include seven teams.

Every four years will see the extended edition.

Beginning on July 20 in Auckland and Sydney is the ninth Women’s World Cup.
