Friendly Man United suffer friendly defeat against Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United’s tour of the United States ended with a 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Monday.

Diogo Dalot, one of 11 changes to the starting XI that faced Real Madrid on Thursday, put the Reds ahead with a superb curled effort, but Erik ten Hag’s charges trailed at the half-time break after Donyell Malen scored twice in barely a minute. And though Antony restored parity early in the second period, substitute Youssoufa Moukoko slid home a winner for the Bundesliga side in front of 50,857 fans and bring the curtain down on Tour 2023.

Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana replaced Heaton at half-time for his second United appearance and was almost immediately called upon to make a smart reflex stop from Sebastien Haller.

What did Ten Hag say after the game: “Two parts – first hour [was] good, well-performing, playing as a team, lot of dynamic, good pressing, so it was really enjoyable to see,” he said, adding: “That is what I wanted to say to the team at half-time and then all of a sudden they gave two goals away and they really were giveaways. So that was already annoying but the last half an hour was bad, was a poor performance.

“Didn’t follow the rules at all, not in pressing, not in building up, and not in attacking, so there were 11 individuals finally on the pitch and that wasn’t good at all.”
