FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FIFAWWC: Why Zambia’s Chanda and Nali will remain in New Zealand

The ambassador of Zambia to New Zealand and Australia Elias Munshya has confirmed Grace Chanda and injured goalkeeper Hazel Nali will remain in New Zealand for medical treatment.

While Chanda was ruled out of the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup due to illness and was immediately admitted to a local hospital in New Zealand, Nali picked an injury during their warm-up friendly against Germany and was not able to feature in their group matches.

With the Copper Queens set to return home following their exit from the tournament, Munshya confirmed the duo will not be part of the returning team, by saying: “We met with Grace Chanda and Hazel Nali. Both athletes will remain in New Zealand for medical treatment and will be staying there for a few more days. The rest of the team and FAZ delegation has left for Zambia,” Munshya wrote on his Twitter handle.
