Transfers Manchester United agree Fred transfer to Fenerbahce

Manchester United have reached an “agreement in principle” for the transfer of Fred from Old Trafford to Turkish side Fenerbahce, the English Premier League club announced Friday.

A statement on United’s official website added Fred would fly to Istanbul for a medical on Saturday, with the deal also subject to the midfielder “agreeing personal terms and receiving international clearance to process the move.”

The statement read in part: “Manchester United can confirm an agreement in principle has been reached with Fenerbahce for the transfer of Fred,” adding: “The Brazil international is set for a switch to the Turkish Super Lig, subject to a medical, agreeing personal terms and receiving international clearance to process the move. Our no.17 is scheduled to fly out to Istanbul on Saturday, in order to take his medical tests.

“Everybody at the club would like to wish the very best of luck to Fred for the future, as we await confirmation that the deal is completed.”

The midfielder joined the club in the summer of 2018, from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, and has racked up 213 appearances in total for the Reds. Of his 14 goals, one of the highlights came this year when his strike drew United back on level terms against Barcelona, as they knocked the Catalan giants out of the Europa League.

He appeared in the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City, after helping United lift the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign, and his most recent outing was in the friendly win over Lyon in Edinburgh.
