Transfers Done Deal: Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga seals Real Madrid switch

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has completed a season-long loan move to La Liga side Real Madrid.

The Blues confirmed on their official website: “The club wishes him well for the season ahead in Madrid, where he will work with former Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti.”

Kepa arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2018 from Athletic Club and established himself as a first-choice during his debut season. He made 54 appearances during the 2018/19 campaign, which ended with Chelsea lifting the Europa League trophy.

However, he subsequently lost his place to Edouard Mendy only to regain it last season when the Senegal keeper was out injured. Mendy has since left Chelsea after they sold him to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in June.

The Spaniard would go on to make a further 109 appearances for the Blues over the next four seasons and was involved in our Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA World Club Cup triumphs. Last term, Kepa was handed the captaincy for the first time and re-established himself in the Spain squad.
