Europe OFFICIAL : Germany sack head coach Hansi Flick amid poor run

The German Football Federation announced on Sunday afternoon the sacking of Hansi Flick at the helm of the national team.

The decision was looming since the Mannschaft has been shockingly knocked out in the group stage of the last World Cup.

And the 1-4 loss to Japan in a friendly on Saturday quickened the departure of Flick which has been beaten by the same team during the World Cup in Qatar 2-1.

“The committee agreed that the German national team needs a fresh impetus after the recent disappointing results. Going into the European Championship next summer, we need confidence and optimism in the country regarding our team. This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make during my time in this role because I really respect Hansi Flick and his assistants, both on a professional and personal level. Sporting success is of the utmost importance to the DFB, which is why this decision had to be made”, German FA president said.

Under Flick, Germany only won 4 of their last 17 games across all compétitions.

The figures are concerning as the country host the Euros next year.

Pending the appointment of a new manager, Rudi Völler will serve as interim coach.

Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann is among Flick’s potential replacements.
