Kenya Gor Mahia defeat AFC Leopards to claim bragging rights in Mashemeji derby

FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC secured a 2-0 victory over rivals AFC Leopards in the 97th Mashemeji Derby at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

Gor Mahia took the lead in the 22nd minute when Austin Odhiambo found Benson Omalla who slotted it past an advancing Levis Opiyo. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Gor. The second half witnessed Benson Omalla score his brace from close range from a Sibomana assist.

A John Kiplagat brace was enough to give Murang’a Seal a win in Murang’a against Sofapaka. Kiplagat started the scoring early in the first half at the 8th-minute mark and later in the 43rd minute giving the hosts the two-goal advantage at the half-time break.

In other matches, Tito Okello’s sole goal in the stroke of half-time was the difference for his side against Nairobi City Stars while Ulinzi Stars’ 32nd-minute strike by Enosh Ochieng gave them victory against Kariobangi Sharks.

On Friday, promoted secured their first victory in the FKF Premier League, winning 1-0 against Tusker FC. The match took place at Kasarani Stadium, with Shabana getting the better of the exchanges in the first half. They came close to breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute with a long-range strike, but Tusker’s goalkeeper, Brian Bwire, pulled out a great save, keeping his team in the match. Despite continued threats from Shabana, the first half ended goalless.

Shabana maintained their strong start in the second half, once again forcing a point-blank save from Bwire. Their persistence finally paid off when Aloro delivered a free-kick that Nyabuto slotted into the back of the net, granting the visitors a 70th-minute lead. The match finally ended in favor of the newcomers.

League leaders, Posta Rangers, continued their good form with their fifth win of the season against Nzoia Sugar FC. Kennedy Odhiambo’s strike in the 71st minute provided the mailmen with the lead, and Brian Otieno capitalised on a defensive error, scoring from close range.

Posta Rangers remain top of the league standings with 16 points and an unbeaten run in 6 matches.
