Nigeria Premier League NPFL Matchday 5: Rangers Win Big As Sporting Lagos Return To Winning Ways

Sunday’s fixtures of Matchday 5 of the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL produced some important results as there was no away win recorded.

Matchday 5 of the NPFL produced more goals compared to Matchday 4 as a total of 20 goals scored.

Enugu Rangers 4-1 trouncing of Kano Pillars was the highest victory by an home team with the goalless draw between Bendel Insurance and Akwa United the only stalemate.

At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Rivers United defeated Lobi Stars 1-0 thanks to a goal from Alex Oyowah.

This season’s first loss for Lobi Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Doma United was defeated 3-1 by the hosts Shooting Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Doma shocked the home team as they pulled the first blood through Nelson Abiam.

At the halfway point of the game, Gbologade Adelowo scored from the penalty spot to tie the score for the home team.

At the hour mark, 3SC took the lead for the first time thanks to Kareem Ayinde.

Three minutes into stoppage time, Gideon Monday made the save.

In the oriental derby, Abia Warriors defeated Heartland 1-0, with Meme Okike scored the game-winning goal after eight minutes.

In a thrilling five-goal match, Katsina United defeated Sunshine Stars 3-2 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.

Michael Olalusi scored a brace for Sunshine Stars , while Michael Ibe also netted for the Chanji Boys with Bello Lukman also bagging a brace.

Junior Lokosa scored his first NPFL goal as newly promoted Sporting Lagos defeated Niger Tornadoes 2-1 at the Onikan Stadium.

Jonathan Alukwu had opened scoring for the Lagos based team in the 29th minute.

After defeating Kano Pillars 4-1 at Awka City Stadium, Rangers International, the seven-time NPFL winners, took the lead in the log.

This is their third consecutive home win of the season.

Muhammad Yakubu gave Kano Pillars the early lead in the eleventh minute. However, the game was knotted 1-1 at the interval when Godwin Obaje scored from the penalty spot in the twenty-third minute.

But the team managed by Fidelis IIechukwu clearly dominated, scoring three goals in the second half through goals from Chukwudi Nwaodu in the 57th and 62nd minutes and Isaac Saviour in the 54th, as the Flying Anteoples maintained their stellar start to the season.

At the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, Gombe United defeated Plateau United 1-0 in the 91st minute thanks to a late goal by Sadiq Shuaibu.

Shuaibu scored on a spot kick to support the Babaganaru-led team.

At Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Akwa United held Bendel Insurance to a scoreless draw, earning them a crucial road point.

This season, the Promise Keepers’ first away point on the road was achieved with that point.
