UEFA Champions League UCL: Copenhagen Stun 10-Man Manchester United In 7 Goals Thriller

In a thrilling 4-3 Champions League loss to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday, Manchester United surrendered a two-goal lead after Marcus Rashford was sent off for the second time after youthful attacker Rasmus Hojlund had scored a brace.

United’s prospects of qualifying for the round of sixteen were severely damaged by the defeat, as Erik ten Hag’s team now sits fourth in Group A with two games remaining.

In an exciting first half, Hojlund gave United a flying start by tucking in a pass from Scott McTominay at the 171-second mark to score the game’s first goal.

In the 28th minute, the 20-year-old scored again against his previous team, sending the ball nearly to his feet after Kamil Grabara made a save.

When Rashford was given a red card in the 42nd minute for stepping on Elias Jelert’s ankle to shield the ball, the situation took a drastic change. Three minutes later, Mohamed Elyounoussi grabbed one back, giving the home team new life after that point.

More suffering was to come when, shortly before halftime, Diogo Goncalves of Copenhagen converted a penalty following a handball by Harry Maguire past Andre Onana.

After Bruno Fernandes skillfully scored a penalty awarded by VAR for a handball, United momentarily took the lead again.

However, they collapsed in the closing minutes, conceding two goals: four minutes after Roony Bardghji, a 17-year-old substitute, shot home, and in the 83rd, when Lukas Lerager raced in to meet Rasmus Falk’s cross.
