Nigeria Okoye Withdraw From Super Eagles Squad, Obasogie In

Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye on Monday, withdrew from the Super Eagles team for their forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

After being out from the Super Eagles squad for more than a year, the young player made a comeback for the team’s most recent international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

He was invited to the World Cup qualifier by national team coach Jose Peseiro of Udinese after he gave an outstanding performance in the Coppa Italia match against Cagliari.

The squad technical staff swiftly selected Bendel Insurance goalie Amas Obasogie to replace the former Watford FC goalkeeper, who withdrew from the team on Monday.

The game against Zimbabwe is scheduled for next week in Rwanda, while the match against Lesotho is scheduled for Thursday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
