A wonderful strike from Pedro Porro was enough to book Tottenham a place in the FA Cup fourth round after a closely-fought encounter with Burnley on Friday.
The Spanish full-back hit a superb 25-yard rocket to break the deadlock with 12 minutes remaining of the third round tie at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which proved to be the match-winner as both sides found it difficult to create clear-cut chances throughout the game.
Vincent Kompany’s side went close to a last-gasp equaliser but Zeki Amdouni flicked an effort over the bar just seconds before the final whistle. Both sides had a couple of early chances with Anass Zaroury lashing high and wide for the visitors while Wilson Odobert tested Guglielmo Vicario with a long-ranger that the goalkeeper comfortably pushed away on seven minutes.
At the other end, a lovely ball from Oliver Skipp played in Richarlison but he dragged his effort wide before Brennan Johnson cut in from the left and forced Arijanet Muric into a diving save with a right-foot curler.
The best chance of the half went the way of the Clarets in the 27th minute. Zaroury dinked the ball over our defence which found Amdouni making a run in behind, he was face-to-face with Vicario 10 yards out but the ball got stuck under his feet and, when he did eventually take control, lifted his shot over the bar. It was a real let-off.
