Napoli Osimhenless Napoli Suffers Huge Loss To Torino

With goals from Antonio Sanabria, Nikola Vlasic, and Alessandro Buongiorno propelling the hosts into the top 10, Napoli’s Serie A title defence suffered yet another blow on Sunday as they fell 3-0 in Torino.

Napoli, who had only won once in their previous six league games, dropped to ninth place in the rankings with 28 points at the halfway point of the season, one point ahead of Torino and 20 behind leaders Inter Milan.

When second-half substitute Pasquale Mazzocchi, who had just joined from Salernitana, was sent off for a high-boot challenge on Valentino Lazaro five minutes into his debut, the hosts seized the initiative and Napoli were down to 10 men.

Just before halftime, Ivan Ilic’s free kick took a deflection from Duvan Zapata and fell to Sanabria for a fast finish, marking the beginning of Torino’s methodical onslaught.

Early in the second half, Vlasic received the ball from Zapata and dribbled his way into an opening before reaching the corner of the net to increase the hosts’ lead.

Just after the hour, Buongiorno headed Lazaro’s corner kick to make it 3-0, giving Torino their first victory over Napoli since 2015.

While Torino will want to maintain their momentum at Genoa, Napoli will try to turn things around when they host Salernitana on Saturday.
