Kenya Gor Mahia striker Omalla is going nowhere, says McKinstry

Gor Mahia coach Jonathan McKinstry has dismissed transfer reports linking lead striker Benson Omalla to Algerian outfit USM Alger.

Reports on social media linked the youngster to the North African side and further confirmed the figures involved including a monthly salary of $20,000 (Ksh3.1 million), a $100,000 (Ksh15.8 million) signing bonus, and a $50,000 (Ksh7.9 million) transfer fee.

However, when reached for comment, McKinstry rubbished the reports insisting Omalla was still contracted to the reigning champions and that no club had reached out to the club for his services.

“In essence, there is no truth in Omalla (moving to USM), the club has not received any offer, Benson (Omalla) does not have a release clause in his contract, I don’t know, sometimes some people like creating stories so that people click on the link, but for us there has never been any approach for Benson, he is part of our player, and we value Benson more than what is reported,” said McKinstry.

McKinstry, however, admitted K’Ogalo will not stand in the way of Omalla if USM tables a tangible offer, and further confirmed the club was already in talks to release Ugandan midfielder Rogers Mugisha to an unnamed club in Denmark.

“At Gor Mahia, we will never stand in the way of any player (who wants to leave), in the same way, you see Rogers (Mugisha) is leaving us soon to move to Denmark, we are finalising details on his transfer,” said McKinstry, adding: “We will never stand on the way of any player but at the same time there must be fair value for the player to make the transfer, for (Omalla) those are rumours, those are people wanting to create headlines.”

The much-sought Omalla is currently the leading scorer in the league with nine goals from 17 matches while in the last campaign, he scored 26 goals as K’Ogalo secured their 20th title.
