The African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) continues to deliver its verdict for the lucky winners of the group stage. And with Tuesday evening’s results, we now know the first matches for the round of 16.

Qualified at the last minute after a crazy match against Gambia, Cameroon will face Nigeria on January 27.

There will also be a Guinea clash the next day. Finally, the third known round of 16 will pit the surprising Cape Verde team against Mauritania. The latter offered themselves the precious sesame after their resounding victory against Algeria.

• Nigeria – Cameroon: January 27.
• Equatorial Guinea – Guinea: January 28.
• Cape Verde – Mauritania: January 29.

Note that there are still six places to be allocated.
