CAF Champions League CCL: President Samia hails Yanga SC for reaching quarter-finals

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan has congratulated Young Africans (Yanga SC) for making it to the CAF Champions League (CAF CL) quarter-finals.

Via her Instagram account on Sunday, the Head of State wrote: “I congratulate Yanga for doing well in the group stage of the Champions League and qualifying for the quarter-finals.

“This is a big historic success for the club and the country’s sports sector, you have brought happiness to millions of your fans and Tanzanians in general.”

The Tanzanian Premier League champions qualified after thrashing Algerian side CR Belouizdad 4-0 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

On March 1, Yanga face Al Ahly of Egypt in their last fixture of Group D to be played in Egypt, any outcome will be friendly for the Tanzania envoys while Belouizdad welcome Medeama in a dead rubber.

As it stands, Al Ahly tops Group D with nine points, Yanga are second with eight points, CR Belouizdad sit third courtesy of five points while Madeama are bottom with four points.
