Nigeria Premier League NPFL: Plateau United Run Riot Against Heartland As Rangers Beat Remo Stars

Action returned in the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL in the midweek games on Wednesday for Matchday 22.

Matchday 22 produced much goals and talking points with a total of 19 goals scored in six games played at various venues.

The highlight of Matchday 22 was the big away win by Plateau United and the record attendance at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in the Northwest derby game between Katsina United and Kano Pillars.

Plateau United traveled to the Awka City Stadium and claimed a vital 5-1 away win to boost their chance of a continental ticket.

Wale Doyeni gave the visitors the lead in the 14th minute before Lawrence Agbor doubled the lead in the 20th minute.

Heartland FC were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute but Promise Anyanwu’s spot kick was saved by Plateau United goalkeeper as the first half ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors.

Nenrot Silas extended the lead for Plateau United just two minutes into the second half.

Undone yet, the visitors netted their fourth goal of the day through Victor Makalala who scored in the 88th minute before Harrison Ebah out the game beyond reach for in added time.

Heartland consolatory goal came in four minutes added time through Onyekachi Okafor.

Rangers defeated Remo Stars 1-0 at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium to move to third place in the NPFL table.

The game-winning goal was scored by Kenechukwu Agu four minutes prior to the hour.

Rangers have now played 22 games and accumulated 37 points.

The Sunshine Stars defeated the leaders Lobi Stars 2-0 at Akure.

On minute 13, Sunshine Stars took the lead thanks to a penalty kick from Vincent Temitope.

Halfway through, Chidozie Iwundu scored the second goal.

Ekeson Okorie scored twice as Bayelsa United defeated Doma United 2-0 in Yenagoa.

In an exciting North West derby, Katsina United defeated Kano Pillars 3-2 at home.

Jonas Emmanuel gave the home team the lead on minute 33, while Ibrahim Mustapha gave Pillars a point just before the hour.

On minute 68, Azeez Falolu gave Katsina United their second lead of the match; two minutes later, Yahaya Nazifu doubled the lead.

Mustapha Umar cut the Pillars’ time disadvantage by twelve minutes.

Sporting Lagos overcame Akwa United 2-1 in the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, in another match.

After 21 minutes, the visitors took the lead through Sani Suleiman.

Tochukwu Late in the game, Michael scored twice to give Paul Offor’s team all the points.

Action continues on Thursday for the other Matchday 22 games as Enyimba FC hosts Gombe United.

Kwara United will be the guests of Abia Warriors while Bendel Insurance will be on the road to take on Shooting Stars in Ibadan.
