10-man Mashujaa FC stunned Tanzania Premier League giants Simba SC 6-5 on post match penalties to reach the quarter-finals of CRDB Bank Federation Cup at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma on Tuesday.
The two sides produced a 1-1 draw in the normal period of play thereby attracting spot-kicks to divide them. Hosts Mashujaa grabbed an early lead via Reliants Lusajo (5) which was cancelled out by substitute Freddy Kouablan (51).
Despite playing with 10-players, Mashujaa resisted well pressure from the Reds throughout the second half until the final whistle sounded to break the tie. It was another blow to Msimbazi-based giants, who were recently eliminated in the CAF Champions League competition by Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Seven teams that have qualified into the quarters so far are Ihefu, Tabora United, Coastal Union, Namungo FC, Geita Gold, Azam FC and Mashujaa.
