Africa CAF : Ahmed Ould Yahya Officially Joins The Race For The Chair

A new candidate joined the race for the presidency of the CAF (Confederation of African Football) on Monday. Ahmed Ould Yahya, the boss of Mauritanian football, is committed.

Anxious to promote African football and at the end of a deep reflection and extensive consultations. I decided to present my candidacy for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football.” That’s how Yahya announced his candidacy on his Twitter account.

The businessman is in his third term at the head of the FFRIM (Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania). He is also member of the CAF Executive Committee. And Gianni Infantino, President of the FIFA, often well appreciates for transparency and rigour in the service of football development in Mauritania.

Under his management, the country of the Mourabitouns saw their first participations in continental competitions. (CHAN in 2014 then 2018 and AFCON in 2019). And Mauritania will organize for the first time, a continental competition next year, the AFCON U20.

Yahya joins outgoing President Ahmad, Ivorian Jacques Anouma and South African Patrice Motsepe. They are the official candidates for the CAF Presidency. The deadline for applications is 12 November. By that time, things will still be moving.

In addition, the next election to head the continental body takes place on 12 March 2021 in Rabat, Morocco.
