Africa Gordon Igesund:“It should not always be about winning and winning”

Gordon_IgesundBafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund says he is prepared to lose matches with the ultimate aim of building a winning squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup tournaments.

In the context of the international friendly with Morocco on Friday, Igesund talks of sacrifing victories with the aim of getting his men strenghened to handle Afcon 2015.

“Of course, every game we play we want to win, but I am not going to sacrifice the players for the sake of winning. We all have to be in this together and understand the big picture which is the 2015 AFCON. I have taken the responsibility to ensure that we have a squad ready for that tournament, and along the way I am prepared to lose games because at the moment we are not playing qualifiers. The country needs to understand that if I was to play for my life it would be different players in the squad and it was going to be a must-win situation in every game,” said Igesund.

“It should not always be about winning and winning. Let us not be scared to lose a match or give youngsters a chance. If we win it will be brilliant, and we are capable of winning, but also we will have achieved our objective of introducing the young players if we don’t get the result,” he added.
