Nigerian Players abroad Gerrard Expresses Satisfaction Over Balogun Performance

Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard says he has been immensely impressed by the performance of Leon Balogun since he joined the team.

Balogun joined Rangers last month and have immediately settled down helping the club to win their first two opening games of the season.

The Nigerian international was named in the Scottish Premier League team of the season in the opening league game.

Balogun produced another outstanding performance in his first home game at the Ibrox Stadium that ended in 3-0 clean sheet.

Gerrard in his pre-match conference ahead of Rangers home game against St. Johnstone on Wednesday said Balogun is a winner and a quick player.

He said, “I have been very impressed, and not just with the player.

“We knew we were adding a fantastic player because we have followed him and tracked him for quite a while.

“I also spoke to Paul Cooke at Wigan in great detail about him and he was very complimentary.

“So we knew we were getting a top player, and since he has come in the door, he has been fantastic in training and he has been really good around the place in-terms of his character.

“You can see clearly he is a winner and he is our type and fits our profile as he is quick.

“So at Ibrox when we want to go and put pressure on teams, it is important that defenders are capable of defending the halfway line, and he certainly is.”

Balogun trained with the rest of the team on Tuesday ahead of their game against St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League.
