Premier Soccer League Gavin Hunt – We’ve got a squad of players that needs to win a trophy again

Gavin Hunt

Newly appointed Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has spoken to the club’s official website for the first time since his appointment and said players need to win a trophy again.

The last time Kaizer Chiefs won the ABSA Premiership title back to 2014/15 season. So far, arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns won the league four times with three in a row since 2017/2018 season. Bidvest Wits won it in 2015/2016.

However, in-between this period, Amakhosi have just been runner-up just one time, in the just ended season. And it was really a disappointing finish as they were leading the standings since the beginning of the season. Something, Gavin Hunt intends to resolve.

“We’ve got a squad of players that just came second by 20 minutes [in the last game of the season]; we’ve got a squad of players that needs to win a trophy again,” Hunt told Chiefs’ website.

“There are a lot of players that have won a lot here, and are they still hungry to win more? The ones that haven’t won, we need to get them to want to win more trophies,” the 56-year-old tactician added.

“The bottom line is that we need a club going in the direction and competing in terms of the success of trophies, that’s for sure.

“This is a club that needs to compete in every tournament, be it the Telkom Knockout, Nedbank, MTN8 and Africa. We’re going to need help.” Hunt concluded.
