Speaking after the game, O’Neill said he was pleased with the performance of his players and the result.

I’m pleased this afternoon, I thought we played well, he told the club media.

“I wanted to see what we did against Derby County but with another layer on top, and we got that today.

“I still think there is more in us as well.

“First half I thought we were very, very good.

“The shape of the team was excellent and the quality of the play was excellent as well.

“We could have possibly been more than one goal ahead.

“It’s then a great free-kick from Steven at a key moment in the game.
