Africa Soccer ZAMBIA : Rangers coach Chilumba becomes latest admin leave casualty

Zambia MTN Super League side, Forest Rangers FC have sent their coach, Tenant Chilumba, on an administrative leave.

Chilumba is the third coach in Zambia domestic league this season to be sent on such a leave which usually leads to dismissals.

In a statement issued on May 19 2021, Rangers spokesperson, Christina Zulu, did not state the reasons behind the club’s decision on the coach.

Forest Rangers Football Club Head Coach Tenant Chilumba has been sent on administrative leave with immediate effect. In the interim, Coach Owen Kaposa, the Second Assistant Coach, will serve as the acting Head Coach,” the statement reads.

Chilumba has been sent on leave days after Rangers lost 3-0 to Red Arrows in a league match played on Saturday.

Rangers have not won in the last five league games. Rangers, who last won 1-0 in the win over Kabwe Warriors in April 2021, are on position six on the log table with 43 points from 31 games.

Zesco United lead the table on 55 points from 27 games.

On May 11, 2021, Power Dynamos sent coach Perry Mutapa on an administrative leave and placed assistant coach Masauso Tembo in temporary charge of the team.

Last month, Nkana then sent Kelvin Kaindu on an administrative leave only to bring on board Beston Chambeshi as the man in charge of the outgoing champions.

In December 2020, Nkana sent their then coach Manfred Chabinga on an indefinite leave before hiring Kaindu as his replacement.
