CAF Champions League CAF Aproves Use Of VAR For Women’s Champions League Semis, Final

History was made at the ongoing inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was used for the first time in the semi-finals.

The tournament which is being hosted by Egypt had seen all the group games played with VAR.

However, the first semi-final game between Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana and ASFAR of Morocco, saw the technology used.

CAF in a statement before the games said it’s not only committed to promoting women’s football in the continent, but also to advance professionalism.

“CAF will use the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the semi-finals and final of the inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt.

“This is yet another milestone by CAF and a clear demonstration of the organization’s commitment not only to promote women’s football in Africa but to advance professionalism.”

It also added that overwhelming feedbacks has been received globally since the beginning of the tournament.

“Since the opening game of this competition on 05 November 2021, CAF has been overwhelmed by the response from the global community.

“Matches have been watched in over 30 countries including Africa, South America, Oceania, Europe, and South America.”

Hasaacas Ladies defeated ASFAR of Morocco to book their place in the final of the tournament.
