Africa Soccer Brighton star Mwepu leads Zambia to emphatic win over Congo

Brighton and Hove Albion winger Enock Mwepu scored and provided an assist as Zambia beat Congo Brazzaville 3-1 in a friendly played in Turkey on Friday afternoon.

Captain Mwepu gave Zambia a dream start to the game when he converted from the penalty spot in the 20th minute at Mardan Sports Complex.

One goal soon became two four minutes later when Kings Kangwa scored the second goal for the Chipolopolo with Mwepu providing the assist.

Zambia coach Aljosa Asanovic rested Mwepu for Emmanuel Banda in the second half as the game seemed safe and sealed in the bag.

With Mwepu off the stage, Congo reduced the arrears through Guy Mbenza’s spot kick. Zambia led 2-1 at half-time.

Zambia started the second half in the manner they started the first with Scotland-based Frankie Musonda cushioning the lead with a third goal in the 64th minute.

That proved to be the last goal of the match.

Chipolopolo Croatian coach Asanovic is fine-tuning for the qualifiers of the 2023 AFCON finals.

Zambia started the warm ups with a 3-1 loss to hosts Iraq last week in Asanovic’s first international friendly.
