African players abroad Zambian Mwepu says he wasn’t almost breathing while waiting for final whistle

Brighton and Hove Albion Zambian winger Enock Mwepu has said he ‘wasn’t almost breathing’ while waiting for the Premier League game against Arsenal to end on Saturday afternoon.

“I almost wasn’t breathing!” Mwepu told Brighton website. “I just wanted the game to end but we defended so well and it was just great to win the game and then celebrate in front of our fans.”

Mwepu said this after scoring and providing an assist for Brighton to emerge as man-of-the match. Brighton won the game 2-1.

The Zambian scored the winner to add to Leandro Trossard’s first-half strike in between Martin Odegaard’s consolation for Arsenal.

He said his team-mates had predicted that he would score in the game.

We had a little joke in the dressing room before the game that I was going to score. I was delighted to take the chance, I hit it really well and it was wonderful to see it go into the net,” he said.

“I am so glad, we needed the three points after six loses and a draw but I think we have shown that we have the right mentality in the group to can come to places like Arsenal and play like we did.

“We just want to continue in the final games like this, play well and win for the coach, who has shown a lot of confidence in us.”
